Thursday, August 14, 2003, the electric power down on the whole North East America + Canada. Around 50 million people out of it for about 16 hours, some less, some more. The greatest blackout history in North America. Mulai sekitar jam 4 lebih, tiba2 TV mati, .. aku heran ... lho kok tumben .. I thought it would be for 10 or mostly 30 minutes, but I turned out wrong.
I needed the AC more than anything else in the world right now. It was too damn hot for a pregnant woman to survive on the humidity and the heat of it. I don't think I am spoiled, I need it and I know I do. Hours passed by and I realized that I needed to get out of the house, try to find some comfort in the mall. I was thinking to stop by at Ryan's and play with my lil cousin. I had my non fancy 10-bucks phone, the one with no electrical plugs set up, cause the cordless was just dead. So I called over there. Apparently, no electric either there, I found out that the whole Manhattan and Queens got the power out. Ok, .. that was it, Queens Mall here I come. Well, well, .. a trip worth to save, the whole damn thing was dark too. Went back home, waiting for the sun to set and some mercy from the mother nature. Blow some wind please .... So there I was, sitting on my patio (thank God I have one) the whole time. A rush to the grocery store when Sur came back, got some cans of soups and cookies. Just in case....
I waited my hubby to get home, I was glad I got some phone calls from Tante Rin, she was walking on the Queensbridge with my hubby!! haha ... pretty amazing how they could bump on each other among those thousands people. I thought he would be home by 10 or something, but nope ... I was glad to see his face when he showed up at 8. Hungry as hell, we had dinner outside by the patio, and it's getting dark. It was fun though. When we're done, something was missing ... my Internet and his Cable TV. Thankfully, we got a battery-operated CD with radio. And I had those little crappy PC speakers I never threw. We sit by the patio and listening to the news. Then he said, "Kayak jaman2 PKI gini ya yang .. hehehe"
It was still too hot inside, so we just linger outside. And it was great to experience New York without a single light (except from the cars). Why? Cause when I looked up, I saw many stars in the dark. You'll never see stars in this city that never sleeps. So it was unsual. And despite my restless and sleepless night, God was pretty good to us. Everything was calm and kinda bright outside. As I wonder why, the moon was full with its silvery ray. So it was a damn hot night, but not really a dark one ...
